BEWARE PROUD MOMMY IN THE ROOM!!
My little princess started her reception year at primary school in September. I always knew she was very bright for her age, she knew all her ABCs by the time she was 18 months old. By aged two years old she knew all her shapes, colours and primary colours. By aged three she could count to 200 in English and count up to 15 in French. Of course this was aided by myself, but let me get this point across now, it was not because I was an over eager mommy, but because my daughter was trying to run before she could walk. She was so easy to teach and seemed to revel in it, so I continued to teach her. By the time she started nursery at aged 3 years old she could spell and write her own name as well as her mommy and daddy’s name too.
Clearly all the time I spent with her was so worth it as during her very first parents evening I was informed that my little princess was in all the top sets in her studies. The teacher informed me that it really showed that I had spent a lot of time with her pre-school. She was exceeding all expectations at school and they said she was a delight to teach. She is currently 4 years, 10 months old!
Now, of course I am very proud of her and here I am singing from the tree tops. You see education as far as I am concerned is one of the most important things in a child’s life after the love and support of their parents. It’s so important to encourage them and show them how proud of them you are, even when they are not doing so well. All children have different learning levels, some find education easy and other’s will struggle throughout their educational journey. Other’s will lack the support of loved ones and their confidence will be lacking. As parent’s our job to support our kids and help them on their way whatever their learning capabilities.
I find making learning fun really works, my daughter loves to read and write already and I encourage this by working with her at home. I make it fun too, we make up stories then write the stories down. Sometimes we act out stories using key words which my daughter will then write down in her little book. So she is not only learning through fun and play but she is spending fun quality time with her mummy at the same time. I love to spend as much time with my daughter as possible and I am always looking for fun educational things to do with her so we can play and learn at the same time.
As parents we are our children’s first teachers…
