I am sure all you parents out there have been through the same as me recently! Preparing costumes for the yearly school Nativity play…. I have to say I cheated this year! Due to lack of time I dashed out to TK Max and purchased an Angel outfit… Which to my great relief so did most of the other parents too!
I was due at the school reception hall at 9.30 am and I was standing outside the doors at 9.10 am! I wanted to be sure I got a front row seat to take those all important pics without a load of bobbing heads in the way. Unfortunately most of the other parents had the same idea too and there was a long line already forming at the doors when I arrived… Mmm I thought, there maybe a battle here lol!
Thankfully the teachers opened the doors early for the parents, to save us from freezing outside which I thought was very thoughtful and on entering the beautifully decorated hall I need not have worried as there were plenty of front row seats, whew.
We all waited patiently for our little angels to walk out with cameras in hand and all fidgeting on our seats through pure excitement. We had all been practicing our children’s lines with them all week and so we knew just how much this day meant to them. Then the music started playing and out came the reception year children all dressed in their costumes and singing as they walked onto the stage and then sat down. My daughter had the first opening line which was to introduce the play (Whoopsie Daisy Angel) to the audience. Which she did so eloquently. I already had tears in my eyes at this point, you see this was my daughters very first nativity play so you can excuse me for being a tad emotional! (In fact I was bursting with pride…)
There were 60 children in this brilliantly choreographed nativity play. Not one child faltered with their lines and it all went to plan. I was totally amazed and had a lot of respect for the reception year teachers who had prepared the children so well. There was shepherds and stars, angels and of course Joseph and Mary… Not to mention a few sheep and a baby in a manger. By the end of the play there were many happy tears and a lot of very proud parents, who couldn’t wait to scoop up their angels and give them a tight hug.
All the little four and five year old’s did tremendously well and they all got a huge round of applause at the end. The head master let the parents have five minutes with their children before we had to leave the school and let them go back to their classrooms. This was a great photo opportunity for the parents as the phones and camera’s were clicking away.
This was so magical for me and I did feel so proud of my little princess… These early years really are so very precious, they fly by so quickly and before we know it our little ones will be big ones. I am sure the rest of you parents out there are feeling just as proud as I am this week as all the Nativity plays unfold around the country…. Merry Christmas
